Professional History
Alicia Kane graduated from the Canberra School of Art in 2006 with a bachelor of fine arts with honours and is passionate about all types of art. During Alicia's study she travelled extensively to art schools around the world such as Glasgow School of Art and Kyoto international university.
Curating an exhibition while working at Craft ACT in 2007 gave Alicia the knowledge and experience in setting up exhibitions, as well as marketing and promoting herself as an artist and designer. Alicia has been working with mentor, Gerry Wedd, a well known Australian artist one of the designers of Mambo Designs. This has been inspirational and pivotal in Alicia's progress as an artist.
In 2008 Alicia won an Emerging Artist mentorship grant with Kaye Pemberton, who is an accredited member of Craft ACT Contempory Craft and Design Centre and a respected artist of functional ceramics. With her guidance, Alicia produced functional ceramic wear that is marketed in shops and galleries. This has lead to the development and interest in maiolica, an Italian type of glazing, and has contributed to a new production wear and sculptural work that is constantly evovling.
In 2009 Alicia studied at The Jam Factory Contempory Craft and Design Centre in Adelaide South Australia and has produced a production range. In the last year Alicia has decided to dedicate herself to working full time in ceramics.
